Event Description

Hiking when you are single doesn't mean you have to hike alone. Join us for this free event, get some vitamin D and meet other singles. The easy hike will take less than 2 hours (Lake Shore Trail – 3.7 miles) and then we will enjoy lunch, picnic style.

Where: Seneca Creek State Park, 11950 Clopper Road, Gaithersburg, MD 20878

Who: Open to all Singles

When: Sunday, October 16, 9:30am meeting at the park. Starting hike at 10:00am – 12:00Am (Bring your own lunch) – Rain or shine

Cost: Free!!! ($3 or $5 park entrance fee might apply) When we hiked, it was totally FREE.

Details: Dress comfortably – preferably layers. Please arrive by 9:30am: Starting the hike at 10:00Am – follow signs to Clopper Lake Recreation Areas. Park in the Boat Center/Picnic Sites/Playground area. There is plenty of extra parking across the street as well. Meet us by the Lake Shore Trail sign. Please don’t be late as we will start our hike by 10:00am. Bring plenty of water and snacks. We will enjoy lunch, picnic style, after the hike. So don’t forget to pack your lunch – it will stay in the car during the hike.

Directions: Take I-270 North from the Capital Beltway. Take exit 10, Clopper Road (Rte 117 W). The park entrance is about 2 miles on the left. The entrance is clearly marked.
Directions from north and west: Take I-270 South from Fredrick, MD. Take exit 15, Germantown Road (Rte 118 W). Travel 2 miles then take a left onto Clopper Road (Rte 117 E). Travel about 2.5 miles. Park entrance is on the right. 

Once you enter the park, follow signs to Clopper Lake Recreation Areas.  Park in the Boat Center/ Picnic Sites/ Playground area.

You will see a parking and a playground as well. You can park your car in that lot. There is also plenty more parking across that parking lot. Once you park, you will see the sign, Lake Shore Trail. This is the one we will endeavor.

About the park:  Seneca Creek State Park is another “Urban Oasis” located halfway between Washington D.C. and Frederick, MD and minutes off of I-270. It features the 90 acre Clopper Lake, fishing, boat rentals, the well-known 16.5 mile Seneca Creek Greenway Trail. There are other hiking opportunities at the Clopper Lake Day Use Area and Shaeffer Farms Trails. The trails are well maintained, signed and blazed but not heavily used at all. Described here is an easy 7.2 mile “dumbbell” hike featuring views of the lake as well as Seneca Creek.
