Truth and lies about online dating profiles: How to decipher reality:

While it's common for people to use their best photos and perhaps exaggerate a bit on their dating profiles, outright dishonesty is a different issue. Despite this, singles across the world continue to deceive on their profiles in hopes of greater success, which often leads to disappointment later on. But what’s the point of lying on your online profile? It’s a puzzle I’ve yet to solve. What you’re trying to avoid by lying is often what will reveal the truth, as reality has a way of catching up with you.

    **Height and Weight/Body Shape:**

Experts note that height is one of the most common lies, usually told by men who may alter their height by one to three inches. Another common falsehood involves body type. For example, claiming to be "athletic" while not exercising regularly is a frequent exaggeration.

    **Age:**

Men often lie about their age, according to experts. My advice is to either be honest or simply omit your age. Any lie you tell will eventually come back to haunt you, with negative consequences.

    **Lifestyle:**

Many singles embellish their profiles to portray an ideal lifestyle rather than their actual one. For instance, claiming to love activities like water skiing and tennis, but only having tried them once years ago, is a misleading tactic. Misrepresenting your lifestyle will attract the wrong people and waste both your time and theirs.

    **Occupation and Income:**

Discussing income on online profiles is unnecessary, yet people often lie about their jobs or earnings. They might claim to have held prestigious positions in the past, only to reveal later that they are now in a different role or situation. Such lies can create friction when you eventually meet.

    **Children:**

Lying about having children is particularly problematic. Experts have encountered cases where people downplay or omit mentioning children from previous relationships. It's better to be open and proud about your situation rather than misleading others.

It is not uncommon to wanting to show the best version of ourselves and let go of some of the truths that we may be ashamed of. Being honest from the get go will eliminate any expectation from each other and will allow the start of a long lasting relationship to flourish and prosper.
