If, like me, you're relatively new to the Spotify music craze or want to enhance your experience with it, this blog might be helpful. While I've never been a huge fan of pop music, there's always that occasional artist or band that catches my interest, making it hard to ignore. In the past, finding music I truly enjoyed was a challenge. You'd take risks on CDs, often purchasing them after hearing just one song, without knowing what the rest of the album would be like. But times have changed drastically. Now, you can easily explore new music on the internet, with people sharing their tastes and discoveries. Spotify is especially great for this—it curates playlists for you and allows you to follow others who've done the legwork for you. So, how can we make the most out of our Spotify account?
One of the most vital playlists to explore is "Discover Weekly." This playlist refreshes every Monday morning and features the best new music added to Spotify that week. It's an opportunity to stay ahead of the curve. A helpful tip is to download each playlist before it refreshes—after all, we don't always have the luxury of sitting down and listening to music with undivided attention. I personally save the songs I like to a playlist and discard the rest, staying as current as possible with the "Discover Weekly" selections.
You can also follow other Spotify users, including your friends. However, since musical tastes vary, consider following strangers who share similar tastes. You could even follow someone like Barack Obama if you're interested. Some recommended profiles to follow include Michael Alan Perry for his Indie playlists and We Are Going Solo for a more eclectic selection. Additionally, record labels often curate playlists for their new releases.
With Spotify evolving into the Netflix of music streaming, there are now numerous apps available to enhance your experience. Remember iTunes' Genie? Well, there's an app equivalent—MagicPlaylist. It generates a playlist based on a single song you like. Another essential app is Playlist Miner, which creates playlists based on a keyword search like "Chilled," gathering the most popular songs from playlists with that title. There are plenty more useful apps out there.
I also enjoy listening to music based on moods, and Spotify's "Easy" playlist is a current favorite of mine. I'm only beginning to scratch the surface of what my account can offer. Spotify is continually improving and introducing new features, like "Who's Playing Near You," where you can discover artists performing nearby, listen to their music, and even attend their shows—an option you may not have been aware of otherwise. While Spotify has faced criticism and legal challenges, such as those from Taylor Swift, it undeniably offers a vast selection and helps you find music tailored to your preferences, rather than just catering to the masses.
