Dealing with commitment issues and how to overcome them!

Commitment issues are common in our younger years, but for some, these issues can persist into adulthood, potentially leading to a solitary life surrounded by cats. Whether you’re facing fears about commitment or just feeling overwhelmed by the idea of a serious relationship, these issues can make even simple gestures, like receiving a caring text from a date, seem unbearable.

During our youth, the desire for freedom is a natural part of growing up. I experienced this firsthand in my two significant relationships—one in high school and the other in college. In both instances, I found myself subconsciously seeking ways to break free. As a young person eager to explore and enjoy freedom, the end of these relationships brought me more relief than sadness. This was a clear sign of commitment issues, where the thought of being free outweighed the pain of a breakup.

Even in my late 20s and early 30s, I found myself drawn to unavailable partners—those who were emotionally distant or simply not ready for a serious relationship. Perhaps I was attracted to the drama of impossible situations, which allowed me to avoid genuine commitment. I also had several brief but intense relationships that were fulfilling in the short term but lacked long-term potential, which kept my commitment issues at bay.

As I grew older, I realized that many commitment issues stem from past failed relationships. It’s natural to become guarded and independent after such experiences, but remember that the right person may eventually come along and rekindle your faith in love. When you’re ready, allow love to guide you on a rewarding journey.
